The main purpose of the undergraduate programme of studies of University of Cyprus in Chemistry is to provide students with the required theoretical background and laboratory skills to succeed in their postgraduate studies and professional life in both public and private sectors (e.g. chemical industry, private and state analytical laboratories, education sector, etc.)
Learning Objectives:
During their undergraduate studies in the Department of Chemistry of University of Cyprus, students are expected to:
1. Acquire both fundamental and modern chemistry knowledge of sufficient breadth and depth to enable them to understand and critically interpret the primary chemical literature.
2. Be exposed to a breadth of experimental methods and techniques using modern instrumentation.
3. Develop the analytical and critical thinking skills needed to acquire, analyze and interpret data.
4. Develop the ability to effectively communicate scientific information and research results in written and oral formats.
5. Learn professionalism, including the ability to work in teams and apply basic ethical principles.
6. Acquire the laboratory skills needed to design, safely conduct and interpret chemical research.
Upon completion of the program, the Chemistry graduates will be able to:
1. Possess a balanced and up-to-date knowledge of the science of Chemistry through comprehensive academic training, and be able to adapt themselves to the rapid scientific and technological developments in the field.
2. Offer their knowledge to the Chemistry market, including analytical laboratories, manufacturing plants, education, and other services related to the Chemist’s profession.
3. Handle chemical substances in a safe way.
4. Possess transferable skills related to the Chemistry profession.
5. Appreciate emerging needs of the chemical industry and market.
6. Practice in a modern Chemistry environment.
7. Combine theory with practical experience to reinforce the social role of the chemist.
The vast majority of newly admitted undergraduate students enter the University of Cyprus following Pancyprian Examinations organised by the Ministry of Education and Culture for admission into establishments of higher education.
Admission based on Special Criteria: Candidates who have taken the Pancyprian Examinations and who meet certain special criteria, as these are set out in the Rules and Regulations of Academic and Student Affairs, may seek a limited number of places (14% of Cypriot admissions).
· Top athletes and persons distinguished in International Olympiads: Athletes with top distinctions in sports, as defined by the Council of the University of Cyprus or who have won 1st 2nd or 3rd place medals in International Olympiads (e.g. Mathematics, ICT, Biology, etc.), may be admitted into Departments of Cyprus University without examinations simply on the basis of their Lyceum Leaving Certificate.
· Entry on the basis of Panhellenic Examinations: 10% of the total number of places offered through the Pancyprian Examinations may be taken up by candidates passing the Panhellenic Examinations.
Entry on the basis of International Examinations
An additional number of places (3%) of admissions from Cyprus may be sought on the basis of the results of international examinations such as GCE, Baccalaureate or other equivalent examinations, by Cypriots belonging to the Republic’s official religious groups, repatriated Cypriots, Cypriots who reside permanently abroad, Greeks of the diaspora, children of officials of the Cypriot Foreign Service and foreign citizens from EU states or countries outside the European Union.
Turkish-Cypriots Turkish Cypriot graduates of six-grade secondary schools are admitted on the basis of their school-leaving certificate or after passing special written or oral examinations organised by the competent Department. Transfers/Second Degree Every year Cyprus University offers a limited number of places for internal/external transfers and for obtaining a second degree.

➢ Being graduates of a Secondary School, recognized by the appropriate education authority of their country
➢ Certificate of good knowledge of Greek language
➢ Certificate of citizenship
➢ Copy of identity card or passport
➢ All candidates must meet the grade requirements that are defined by the UCY Departments
VISA/ENTRY PERMIT
For all non- EU candidates, who will study at the University of Cyprus, a visa/ entry permit to the Republic of Cyprus is required. The visa / entry permit is issued by the Civil and Migration Department of the Republic of Cyprus.
