Exceptional educators, innovative learning

Learn the latest child and youth care theory and techniques from professors who have recently worked in the field. They’ll teach you how to develop and implement a range of skills and strategies to engage and empower young people — all of them based on a foundational understanding of children’s rights, diversity, human development, trauma-informed and healing-centred practices.

Things you’ll learn to do

  • Create individualized care and intervention plans.
  • Use equitable, inclusive and anti-oppressive methods in all interactions.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals and families.
  • Employ crisis prevention and intervention techniques.
  • Ensure safety and resolve conflicts through restorative approaches.

Sheridan partners with programs in youth justice, schools, hospitals, community mental health and live-in care. • Art and nature-based activities.
  • African drumming.
  • Self and community-based reflection.
  • Group-based assignments and presentations.
  • In-the-moment simulations.
  • Case studies.
  • Social media campaigns.
