Criminal Justice (BA)

Overview

At Concordia University Chicago, students pursuing a Criminal Justice degree will obtain an interdisciplinary experience, rooted in the social sciences, which incorporates theory and practice.

Students are able to tailor their degrees by enrolling for courses in sociology, political science, psychology, philosophy and social work.

Our qualified and devoted faculty whose educational, career and research backgrounds are directly related to the interests and needs of those pursuing an interdisciplinary degree. Our courses will allow students to critically analyze how institutions that deal with issues of Criminal Justice impede and promote social justice.

Most courses for the Criminal Justice program derive from sociology and political science. Students are required to take courses that set the foundation and build upon their theoretical background, research methodology and practical application of criminal justice issues.

You will participate in an internship, the internship is a supervised criminal justice related work experience.

Not only do students experience, firsthand, the possibilities and limitations of engaging in justice-focused fields, but internships often provide networking which could lead to future career opportunities. Former students have completed internships at local police departments, the state attorney’s office, juvenile detention centers and law firms.

Requirements

To apply, you will need the following:

A completed admission application for Concordia University Chicago.
Official transcripts of all college coursework from each institution you have attended.
Foreign transcripts evaluated by a Concordia-Chicago-approved international credentialing service. Concordia-Chicago accepts evaluations from Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE).
A certified document pledging financial support for your first year of study and without any unexpected events, and enough funding from the same or an equally dependable source for the following years.
Proof of graduation from a secondary school.
A transfer verification form for students transferring from a school in the United States.
Proof of English proficiency, via one of the following:
- A score of at least 72 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) — Concordia-Chicago’s DI code is 1140
- A score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- Successful completion of Level 112 at an ELS Language School (ELS) or a certificate of completion of program from an English Language Institute (ELI), along with a recommendation of the program director
- Duolingo test with a minimum score of 95
- Official, sealed transcripts from the institutions where your degrees were earned, showing all college and university coursework, with certified English translations of all transcripts originally prepared in any other language.
- Any foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a Concordia-approved international credentialing service. Concordia-Chicago accepts evaluations from WES (World Education Services) and ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators).
- A certified document pledging financial support for the first year of study, verifying the same or equally dependable source for the following years of study.
- Two letters of recommendation from individuals able to comment on your academic proficiency, your personal character, your competence and the effectiveness of your professional work.
- A professional resume.
