Director of Christian Education (DCE)

Overview

Concordia’s DCE program will prepare you for a rewarding ministry career through ministry-specific courses, valuable field experience, and personal interaction with experienced DCE faculty and active DCEs serving in the Chicago area.

A DCE is a lifespan (“cradle to grave”) Christian educator who typically works in a church as part of the congregation’s ministry team with pastors, other staff members, and volunteers.

Depending upon a DCE’s unique talents, skills, interests, and experience, he or she might lead a church’s parish education program, children’s ministry, youth ministry, small group ministry, young adult ministry, family ministry, or music ministry. DCE students at CUC have many opportunities to explore and discover how God can use them to serve in His Church.

Through its fieldwork program, the CUC DCE Program partners with congregations in the Chicago area to provide DCE students with valuable, practical experience they can readily connect to their classroom learning. In addition, DCE fieldwork students also provide support to the educational ministries of local congregations. All fieldwork assignments are made by the DCE Program Director.
