As an early childcare educator, you have the distinct opportunity to empower children in a nurturing environment, in their formative years. Through work and play you provide them with a rich learning experience that promotes their emotional, social, and cognitive development. In addition to offering care and support, you will have the opportunity to plan and implement inclusive programming to support children’s development by designing healthy, safe, and inclusive early learning environments, as well as building positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and communities.
Our Early Childhood Education diploma program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work with young children in a variety of settings, such as early-learning programs, childcare centres, and schools. Courses cover the principles and practices of early childhood education, child development, and effective communication. Additionally, this Early Childhood Education program combines both theoretical foundations and practical components, offering students the opportunity to apply the principles and skills they’ve gleaned within a hands-on work environment.
The Early Childhood Education Diploma Program has been approved by the College of Early Childhood Educators for a period of two years (2024-2026) for the purpose of meeting the education requirement for registration.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The program is 1762.5 hours, including 1200 instructional hours and 562.5 hours of practicum with on-the-job training, offsite with potential employers. Our Early Childhood Education program offers three distinct practicum placements to enrich students’ practical experience and cultivate their ability to work effectively with a diverse range of age groups, including infants and toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children. The program is designed to provide students with the essential employability skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the field of early childhood education and an opportunity to apply their skills in a real-world early childhood education setting.
