INTERNAL AUDITING

The Bachelor of Science degree in Internal Auditing offered by UCC is aimed at filling a major gap in the industry. There is a huge need for professionals trained in the area of internal audit, that allows for separation of duties and reporting independently on matters of compliance, governance and risk. The Internal Audit team ideally reports to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors. The Internal Auditor provides assurance to management and the Board of Directors that internal controls are being conducted according to the established policies and procedures of the organisation.

PROGRAMME LEARNING GOALS

This programme will:

1. Ensure that companies are able to find qualified Internal Auditors to support their efforts in establishing good Corporate Governance both in the public and private sectors.
2. Take students through cutting edge, International best practice standards related to Risk Management, Internal Controls,  Information technology, Fraud management techniques, Business Continuity management, Business process reengineering, Ethics, Financial controls, Corporate Governance, and Operational processes/controls,
3. Enhance business writing skills, presentation skills, negotiating skills, and an understanding of compliance related to the Legal/Regulatory environment.

PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOMES

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Internal Auditing will be able to:

1. Perform independently of the operations, to give management and the Board of Directors an unbiased assessment of the Internal Control environment.
2. Apply international best practice standards related to Risk Management and Internal Controls.
3. Apply international best practice standards related to Information technology audits and fraud management techniques.
4. Apply international best practice standards related to business continuity management, business process reengineering, Ethics, financial controls, Corporate Governance, Operational processes and controls.
5.  Analyze and evaluate evidence and appraise alternative viewpoints.
6. Apply business theories and concepts to practical problems.
7. Use written, oral and nonverbal messages to convey ideas, information and intentions effectively in the business environment.
8. Leverage digital tools to support successful business decision-making, organisational communication, business operations and customer relations.
9. Use team skills such as leadership and human relations to promote organisational effectiveness and contribute meaningfully to team projects.
10. Use analytic and quantitative techniques to understand data, make sound inferences, and well-supported decisions.
