JOURNALISM

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism offered by UCC is aimed at exposing students interested in world affairs, media and communication, to the knowledge and skills required for news gathering and reporting. There is huge need for professionals trained in this area, as the news room has several functional areas. Students will learn about credible sources, writing concisely and effectively, interviewing and preparing engaging stories for the public.

PROGRAMME LEARNING GOALS

This programme will:

1. Research, write, edit and create material of professional quality, in line with the practices and standards of news organizations, magazines and professional communications;
2. Demonstrate an understanding of media law and ethical conduct in journalism and professional writing; and
3. Demonstrate an awareness of the assumptions about culture and gender and their impact on the choice of media, representations and focus in journalism.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Arts in Journalism will be able to:

1. Perform entry-level media work in areas of emphasis.
2. Exhibit journalistic ethics, and articulating an ethical decision.
