This program will provide you with a variety of trade-specific skills, introducing you to installing, maintaining and repairing piping systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings, to enhance opportunities for employment.
In the two-semester Mechanical Techniques – Plumbing program, you will learn to:
Identify and install common plumbing fixtures in our multi-story KUBE structure
Assemble various piping systems related to plumbing
Interpret and create drawings, estimates and material lists
Develop competencies in venting, waste and drainage systems
Examine concepts in water and wastewater systems, including operations, backflow and cross connection
Explore renewable energy systems related to plumbing
Work competently with various hand and power tools
Upon program completion, you will also have:
Graduates are eligible for exemption from the Level 1 in-school requirements for Plumber 306A apprenticeship training.
An opportunity to obtain industry related health and safety certifications
Certificates for IPEX 636 training and Viega Certified connections
An opportunity to complete the Operation of Small Drinking Water Systems Course through the Walkerton Clean Water Centre
Grade 12 Math equivalency, a requirement for many apprenticeships.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may find employment with independent contractors, building maintenance operations or wholesale supply houses. This program can also be your pathway to a plumbing apprenticeship.
