As a skilled Medical Office Administrator, you perform a variety of administrative duties in doctor’s offices, hospitals, laboratories, clinics and other medical settings. You are the first person to greet patients and staff upon entering the clinic, and the atmosphere of your work environment is enhanced by your friendly and welcoming attitude and excellent communication skills.
Some of your responsibilities include, being the foundation of communication within the office; planning and scheduling appointments; organizing and maintaining documents and files; managing projects; conducting research; and, providing information by use of telephone, email, and postal service. You may be required to transcribe dictation and assist physicians or medical staff with reports and conference proceedings. You may also need to be familiar with insurance rules, billing practices, and hospital or laboratory procedures according to their province.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE MEDICAL OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR COURSE?
The program is 44 weeks, including 240 hours of practicum with on-the-job training, offsite with potential employers. Anderson College will coordinate a clinical practicum placement within a healthcare setting to gain practical, related experience. This is an important and exciting part of the learning experience. It provides you with the specific skills necessary to effectively manage office procedures and operate a medical office environment. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates can find employment in doctors offices, chiropractor offices, medical clinics, hospitals, insurance companies, and more.
The program covers a wide variety of theoretical concepts, including health administrative team roles and responsibilities; the study of basic human anatomy and medical terminology; document formatting and business correspondence; computer fundamentals; and, patient care and communication, etc. In addition, through hands-on training you gain the practical experience to perform computer, communications, and organizational skills with ease, leading to job success.
