IQS offers an attractive and suitable PhD programme for students interested in research and innovation in the field of Chemistry and Chemical and Industrial Engineering. The programme has an interdisciplinary approach to respond to the professional needs of industry and scientific training for academic and industrial research.
IQS celebrated the 2005-06 academic year the centenary of its foundation. IQS has always been characterised by its spirit of innovation, its continuous contact with companies and for being a training centre for chemical professionals and engineers appreciated in all areas of the profession.
Doctoral studies in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering began at IQS in 1964 and have continued without interruption up to the present day. Throughout its history, IQS has trained PhDs in all fields related to Chemistry and Chemical Engineering who, thanks to their incorporation into the chemical and related industries (pharmaceutical, food, paints, polymers, etc.) have contributed significantly to improving their quality, productivity, competitiveness and capacity for innovation and entrepreneurship. In 2008 the first doctoral thesis in Industrial Engineering (from the studies of the same name started in 2000 at IQS) was defended, opening up new lines of research linked to Engineering.
The essence of the Doctoral Programme in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is the completion of the doctoral thesis under the supervision of a thesis supervisor, joining a research group to develop an original scientific research project in the field of chemistry, chemical engineering or industrial engineering, leading to the acquisition of research skills and abilities.
The objectives of the PhD Programme in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering are:
To train new PhDs with solid basic knowledge who have specialised in the most modern fields of chemistry and engineering. Doctors who can thus contribute to consolidating more competitive, modern companies in which the need for research and innovation is taken for granted.
To awaken the vocation of university teachers and researchers by providing appropriate training for this purpose. Indeed, it is equally important to consider that the doctorate is also the natural and obligatory gateway to a university teaching career.
To train research professionals who, with the most advanced knowledge in their respective specialities, are able to adapt naturally to the ever more rapidly changing scientific and technological environment. Doctors who are therefore aware of the need for lifelong continuing education and who have learnt the necessary methodology for this.
To ensure that doctors trained in these studies, since they will be at the forefront of scientific and technical progress, have, along with a deep ethical sense of the profession, an awareness of the impact that their activity represents for nature and people.
To maintain a high level of basic and applied research that allows us to transmit, at all levels of teaching at IQS, a permanent spirit of innovation and updating of both knowledge and methodologies.
